CHAPTER EIGHT

TOURISM

 This chapter contains the following statistics .

The tourism movement :

    A- It includes the arrivals ( Arabs and foreigners ) who entered the country sorted out by nationality and mean of transportation . The data source was the current statistics which was obtained from the Immigration  passport directorate .

    B- The tourists ( Arabs and foreigners and Syrians ) Who stayed in the country for at least one night Sorted out by nationality and place of stay whether he stayed in a hotel or another place .

    Also stating the number of nights they spent inside The country .

    The data source was the result of the incoming Tourism survey in 2002  which was done by the C-B-S  in cooperation with the ministry of tourism .

    C- The hotel guests and the number of tourism Nights for the Arab and Syrian and foreign tourists Sorted and by mohafzats and the quality of the hotel .

    The data source was the current statistics which was Obtained from the ministry of tourism . this part contained A set of time series for the incoming and guest tourists and the tourism nights .

The departing Syrians :

    It contains all Syrians leaving the country With their destination and the boarder center the crossed stated . the data source was the immigration .

The hotels :

    It includes the number of the hotels in the country and their distribution by the quality of the hotel and the number of beds and rooms and by the mohafzats . the data source is the ministry of tourism .

Damascus international fair :

    It contains data about the number of participating countries ( Arabs and foreign ) and about the number of visitors who visited the fair for a number of years .

    The data source was the administration of the fair .

Museum and antiquities :

    It includes data on visitors to museum and antiquities . the data source is the general directorate of the museum and archeological sites .

Definitions :

    ـ The incoming : every person who enters the country Whether he stayed in or left in the same day .

    ـ  The tourist : every person stayed at least one Night in any place in the country .

    ـ The day tourism : who entered the country and spent there at most 24 hours .

    ـ The non tourist : who came to the country for business or stay and it includes the transit and the diplomats .
