INDUSTRIAL STATSTICS
This chapter includes data on the industrial
production , number of employees , wages &salaries, as well as , gross
product in the industrial sector ,
beside other certain indicators of
invested capitals , distributed in accordance with the economic classification
as follows :
1-
Mining and Quarrying .
2-
Manufacturing Industries.
3-
Electricity and water .
Production indicators , namely for main
industries
, are presented by ownership of
production
means as follows:
1-
Public sector.
2-
Private sector.
This chapter includes as well , data on
electricity and drinking water , number of
subscribers at the General
Establishments for water , just in Mohafazat as new
classification of economic activities issued by the UN , includes distribuation of electricity and water in thissector .
These data & data required for estimating
the indicators included in this chapter were obtained from the following
sources :

Base Year :
Due to the
important development in the industrial sector , during the last five
years A new sories
for industrial production was established , &2000 was selected for
calculation , being the starting point in the 'nineth
five years plan .
We were careful to cover the greatest number
of industries , to get sound index number .
A separate index
number was calculated for each of the three divisions of the industrial
activity :
Mining and
quarrying -Manufacturing
water and Electricity .
The industries
included in the index :
Syrian industries
are distributed into the'following groups according
to the directory of the economic classification currently used .
First : Mining and

petroleum , salt ,
natural asphalt phosphate Sands ,
Gravels and Marbles

Manufacturing industries , it includes :

3- Textile and yarn . 4- Clothes , fer preparation and dyeing .

, preparation and hides . 6- Wood and wooder production .
7- Paper and paper production . 8- Coke and refined oil
production .
9- Chemical materials and production . 10- Rubber and plastics .
11- Non- mettalic

12- Basic mettalic
industry .

drinking water .
Method : the weighted relative index
method ( laspere ) was used in calculating the index
for industrial production . fixed prices for 2000 , were used to get the
required weights Aseparate general index number was
calculated , for each division of the industrial activity , as well as detailed
indices for each group of the manufactured industries.
Later a general
index number for the various divisions of the three industries was calcul- ated by their relative
weights in the basic year.
